Decision 2008 Ohio
After watching the debate in Ohio this evening it becomes increasingly obvious to me that Hillary Clinton is becoming more and more desperate in her measures against her opponent Barack Obama. Stabs at his rhetorical oration brings this into perspective as her unrealistic tactics towards his campaign. While it is largely expected for politicians to sidestep and macro-size their answers to policy questions, largely the debate from Sen. Obama seemed to have content while Sen. Hillary’s arguments were generalized and failed to answer most questions posed from the mediators. Some believe that a powerful orator does not shape a proper leader, as in example from Adolf Hitler. But I do not believe an individual can succeed as a leader in a government without having proper oral and creative skills to inspire the citizens. A student at Lake Sumter Community College made a comment to about conspiracy theory and incorporating it into the show. The whole ordeal behind the Clinton tax-release, and the Obama ‘fainting woman’ occurrences came to mind almost immediately. While not being particularly an extension of conspiracy theory itself, behind the scenes activity is definitely being performed. Credibility must be evaluated when looking at any politician, and education of the nominees and policies will show a truer representation of character. However, it is important to keep in mind that the president of the United States is not the only governing power in our country. A president is mainly a public representation, or hand, of our census.

Devin, I m curious to know about the issues you are referring to when you said that hilary was dancing while Obama was charging right through. It is a true statement I am sure, but it would be interesting to me, a less informed college student, which issues are being properly addressed by whom and which are being kicked out of bounds.
As far as Hitler and the power of a good orator goes; I think that the better the orator the better the leader! Look at what Hitler did… he did awful things, things that I thought could only be imagined; and yet he had the support and praise of millions of people! Powerful oration is in my opinion the number one skill needed in a powerful leader. HOw does this relate? We as Americans are citizens of the most powerful nation in the world; we have the power to sway the goings on in this planet; By having a damn good public speaker, who also has a conscience and a plan as our for-runner, I feel that we (America) could really start to make a positive change in this world.
You are absolutely right about the president not being the only governing power… I think that a lot of times people feel powerless when it comes to politics; but they forget I think that they themselves are responsible for those policies and those people that are presenting them. We, the free people of these United States, have the power and the responsibility to suggest, vote on, and elect everything that happens here. If we are unhappy with what is going on, then we must change it, and we can. We need to remember that power that we hold, rather than curling up and letting these policies and their makers kick us while we are down!
Rockin good show by the way, I hope to hear them all as they come!!

You bring solid points to the plate, Barbara. In response to your comment, I am referring to the questions on health care, campaign funding, and campaigning performance. When asked these questions, Senator Clinton failed often times to answer the questions by instead attacking her opponent, Senator Obama. Hillary’s loaded gun seemed to contain bullets that were labeled, “Inexperienced” shooting them randomly at Obama during the campaign. Her biggest argument was against Obama’s campaigning style and his little experience in the Senate. Sen. Clinton failed to present proof of her campaign funding derivatives, leaving the American people wondering where she truly got her capital from. My reference to Adolf Hitler was to illustrate that Hitler was a great orator, however his goals and objectives for leadership were frightening. A great leader cannot be dichotomous in leadership qualities but rather demonstrate solidarity and a sense of equilibrium.

This is great in concept and content, Devin! I agree with Katrina that there is a need for a serious forum where college students can discuss ideas intelligently and add value to the educational experience. It’s nice to know a student who not only values the power of the medium but uses it thoughtfully.
